Each message in a SalesMind AI sequence has a defined job — and that is why your first touchpoint does not pitch. Sequences are built on a deliberate escalation: earn attention, open a conversation, add value, then make the ask. Skipping steps is what makes outreach feel like spam and kills reply rates.
What is each touchpoint designed to do?
| Touchpoint | Role | Angle | CTA policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP1 — Connection Builder | Find common ground, reference something specific from the prospect's activity | Relevance hook: recent post, role milestone, industry signal | None by design. Goal is curiosity, not selling |
| TP2 — Open Conversation | Ask a pointed insight question or share an observation that invites dialogue | Business outcome or insight — must differ from TP1's angle | Content-based only (resource, case study, insight) |
| TP3 — Add Value | Provide a useful resource or concrete insight for their situation | Situational value: benchmark, resource, tailored insight | Low-commitment |
| Later touchpoints | Escalate gradually toward a direct ask, only once relevance is earned | Builds on prior touches — messages reference earlier context | Direct ask when earned |
💡 Why no pitch in TP1? A first touch that pitches converts like an ad. A first touch that demonstrates relevance converts like a conversation. The sequence is engineered for the second outcome — the pitch comes after attention is earned.
Can I override a touchpoint's behavior?
Yes — per-touchpoint instructions are enforced rules, not suggestions:
- Write "No CTA" to suppress the call-to-action for that touchpoint.
- Write "No question" to let the message end without a question (quality checks will honor it).
- Write "Use exactly this text: …" for verbatim mode.
- Name a link to require it in that message.

How does this connect to quality checks?
Quality review evaluates each message in the context of its touchpoint's job — a connection request is not penalized for having no question, and instructed no-CTA touchpoints are not penalized for not selling. See Understanding Message Quality Checks.
